Cybercrime: An alleged network in the mesh of the Brigade

An alleged cyber criminal network was apprehended and then presented this Friday, September 18, 2020, in Ouagadougou by the Central Cybercrime Brigade (BCLCC).

Composed of four members whose age is between 17 and 21 years old, student and pupils all domiciled in Ouagadougou, the network has been arrested following several complaints from victims. According to the BCLCC commander, the Police Commissioner, Yoni Bantida, the network published on the sale of articles at unbeatable prices on the market via the social network Facebook. He passed himself off as shopkeepers selling articles in the various large cities of the country. “They (members of the network) collect photos of articles from certain businesses or photos of people with a Facebook profile for the creation of fake profiles and fake pages on the social network. The victims sent the money through a phone number affiliated with the money transfer system of mobile operators. Sending money is usually followed by sending a CNIB photo of the victims. These so-called transfer accounts were opened thanks to lost CNIBs or sent by victims… ”, he explained.

Several CNIBs, SIM cards, SIM card purchase receipts, USB keys, VISA cards, four IPHONE brand mobile phones, two SAMSUNG brand mobile phones, one LG mobile phone, one ITEL brand cell phone (to receive transfers from victims), TECNO brand cell phone and LENOVO brand laptop computer. So they were able to buy with the money extorted a motorcycle brand WINNER, model 150 worth more than one million CFA francs.

The damage is currently estimated at more than 10 million CFA francs. The investigation has been completed, and those arrested will immediately be presented to the prosecution for legal action, said the Commissioner of Police, head of the investigation division, Akim Nignan.
